Korean Ambassador explains position on UN Resolution

“The Republic of Korea highly appreciates that the Government of Sri Lanka has been preparing the groundwork for an era of peace after the end of the 26-year civil war,” said Korean Ambassador Arjuna Jongmoon Choi in an interview after the voting on the Sri Lankan resolution at the UN Human Rights Council on 27 March.
Ambassador Choi complimented the Government of Sri Lanka for its efforts towards national reconciliation and reconstruction, mentioning the rehabilitation and reintegration of LTTE soldiers without punishment, the resettlement of IDPs, the first election in 30 years for the Northern Provincial Council and the reconstruction of infrastructures in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.
He stressed that Korea would continue to encourage Sri Lanka to make further progress towards national reconciliation, which is a difficult and time-consuming process.
Lastly, he emphasised: “I am confident that the Government of Sri Lanka will heal the wounds of war by further strengthening domestic efforts.”
This position of the Korean Government was also expressed by the Korean delegation in Geneva after the voting.
