Korean language to national school examinations

Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena says that Korean language would be introduced in the school curriculum and the subjects would also be introduced for the G.C.E. Ordinary Level and Advanced Level examinations.

The Minister expressed these plans when he launched the Korean language teacher training program at the National Institute of Education yesterday.

Under the program 100 selected school teachers will be trained by five South Korean national language experts to teach Korean language. The government of Korea will assist the implementation of the program.

Korean language learning is becoming popular among the younger generation of Sri Lanka who migrates to that country, mostly, as unskilled and semi-skilled workers.

South Korea is one of the major destinations of Sri Lanka’s labor migration and it is handled through a bilateral agreement between the two countries.

Sri Lanka’s Foreign Employment Bureau schedules Korean Language Proficiency Examination for the Sri Lankans expecting to migrate for employment in South Korea
