Kurunegala relief program helps drought-affected Anuradhapura

Kurunegala District Divineguma Social Relief Program has launched a number of programs to assist the drought-stricken people in the Anuradhapura district. Accordingly, a stock of potable water and dry rations were handed over to the Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Minister of Special Projects, S.M. Chandrasena at a ceremony held in Zone 2 office of the Divineguma Development Department at Wariyapola. The ceremony was held under the aegis of S.B. Nawinna, Member of Parliament for Kurunegala District and Senior Minister who took over these goods for distribution among the drought-affected people in Anuradhapura. This program was initiated by Divineguma managers and Divineguma officers under the guidance of Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa and in collaboration with the philanthropic people of the area who contributed 10 lorry loads of relief materials for distribution among the affected people in the Medawachchiya electorate. Minister S.M. Chandrasena who participated at this ceremony stated that this program organised under the guidance of Rajapaksa will be an immense benefit to the drought-affected people and people from Anuradhapura wish to commend this meritorious act of the people of Kurunegala including the Divineguma officials. He recalled that even during the period of terrorist activities, people lined up to help those innocent people who were affected due to war. Divineguma Additional Director General Jayatilake Herath commenting on this relief program stated that various programs were successfully organised to bring relief to the people of Gampaha, Kegalle and Puttalam falling within Divineguma Zone 2 and bottles of potable water and around 3,000 packets of dry rations including rice, sugar, dhal, tea and coconuts were gifted by the people of Kurunegala for distribution among the people in Anuadhapura. Divineguma managers and officers in the Kurunegala district were among the large gathering on this occasion.
