Lak Sathosa introduces Divi Neguma budget packs for Avurudu season

Under the guidance of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Government has introduced a special budget pack of essential items to provide maximum relief to consumers, while keeping the prices of essential items under control during the forthcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year season.



The package which will be sold at Rs. 1,000 comprises two kilograms of samba rice, two kilograms of red rice, one kilogram of dhal, one kilogram of rice flour, one kilogram of sugar, one canned fish, 425 g pack of milk powder, one 100 g pack tea, one packet of Soya meat and one packet of papadam. This is reported to be a concept of the Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa and is jointly implemented by his ministry and the Ministry of Internal Trade. The first package was sold to President Mahinda Rajapaksa by Minister Johnston Fernando.

According to the Ministry of Cooperatives and Internal Trade spokesman, these budget packs will be sold at Divi Neguma weekly fairs across the country. There are 407 such weekly fairs functioning at the moment.
