Lankan Ambassador meets Prime Minister of Palestine

Ambassador-of-Sri-LankaAmbassador of Sri Lanka in Palestine M. Fawzan Anver had met Prime Minister of Palestine Dr. Rami Hamdallah recently. During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed his welcome and wished the Ambassador every success in his new assignment as the Ambassador in Palestine.

The Prime Minister also recalled the cordial and longstanding friendly relations between the two countries and supported extended by the Government and people of Sri Lanka on Palestinian cause. He also explained regarding the continued violations of Israeli’s Government and expanding of Israeli settlements within the territory of Palestine.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the action taken by the President Mahmoud Abbas for the unity of the Fatah and Hamas political parties. According to the Prime Minister, the leaders of the political parties will be meeting in Doha next month for reconciliation.

During the cordial discussion, Anver conveyed the greetings and wishes of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to the Prime Minister. The Ambassador also highlighted the solidarity and cordial relations exiting between the two countries and contributions made by former First World Woman Prime Minister Late Madam Sirimavo Bandaranaike who was the one of the founder members of the Non-Aligned Movement and Afro-Asia Solidarity Movement, also the close friend of the Middle East region and other Sri Lankan political leaders on Palestine issue.

The Ambassador also said that President Maithripala Sirisena, who is the Leader of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe, Leader of the United National Party have joined and formed a National Government.

“It is the first time in Sri Lanka the above two major political parties joined together and formed a National Government as expected by the majority of the people of Sri Lanka. The Government has taken action to develop the country including the constitutional reforms for the promotion of the ethnic and religious reconciliation and the Rule of the Law. The major aim of the Government is only to develop the Country. Sri Lanka is a very safe country in Asia for investment,” the Ambassador added.

He further said that the Palestinian community consumes Ceylon Tea, as such most of them are having ‘Crest of Sri Lanka’ at their homes. He also briefed the action taken by him to promote investment, tourism and trade activities between Sri Lanka and Palestine.

Finally, the Prime Minister appreciated the actions taken by the Ambassador to enhance the existing friendly relations between the two countries and assured that all required assistance would be given to the Representative in order to perform his duties during the period of his office in Palestine.
