Lankan fishermen to protest illegal acts by Tamil Nadu counterparts

Sri Lankan fishermen will jointly protest and organise a public seminar today to express their opposition and concerns over illegal fishing by Tamil Nadu fishermen in Sri Lankan waters and stealing $ 40 million worth of Sri Lankan seafood, with an export value of another $ 40 million. 

Sri Lankan fishermen will also raise awareness among the public and demonstrate their concerns to visiting Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj. 

Organised by Northern Fishermen Cooperative Societies’ Fisher People and Samastha Lanka Podu Deewara Sammelanaya, the protest will be held at 1 p.m. at the Fort Railway Station and the public seminar will be held at 3 p.m. at the National Library and Documentation Center Auditorium, Colombo 7.
