‘Apata Galapena Arthika Kramaveda’, a Sinhala economic article collection book by Dr. Rohan Samarajiva, expert on infrastructure policies and C.J. Amaratunga, veteran journalist, will be launched at 4p.m. on 6 August, at the auditorium of the Bandaranayaka Institute of International studies.
The book is analysing how the theories relevant to infrastructure sectors such as roads, highways, irrigation and drinking water, passenger and cargo transport, power and telecommunications, could be attuned successfully with the political and social realities of Sri Lanka. It also makes restructuring tips for loss making state enterprises to help to transform them into profit making ventures.
Dr. Samarajiva, who is running a research organisation at present, writes to newspapers as well as websites on variety of subjects including economics. In 2009, Dr. Samarajiva was among the final three writers nominated for ‘Bastiat’ award presented to the best online journalist. He was serving as a university professor in Ohio State in the US and in Netherlands until recently.
Co-author Amaratunge was an engineering graduate from university of Moratuwa. He chose journalism over engineering as a profession and served in editorial departments of several newspapers. Amaratunge who is currently occupying the seat of the Regional Editor of Lankadeepa has earned a name as a writer of critical columns on a wide range of social and political issues.
‘Apata Galapena Arthika Kramaveda’ would be interesting, relevant and useful to policy makers, law makers and those who would like to find out of the box ways to develop the country. All are invited to the launching of this book written by this interesting duo of authors.
