Lecture by American Professor on Up-country Tamils

USA Southern Connecticut State University, Department of Anthropology Prof. Daniel Bass, will deliver  a lecture on ‘Up-Country Tamils’ Legal and Cultural Citizenship in Post-War Sri Lanka’ on Monday, 27 May at 4:30 p.m. at the ICES Auditorium, 2, Kynsey Terrace, Colombo  8. 

  Since receiving his PhD in Anthropology and MA in South Asian Studies at the University of Michigan, Prof. Bass has published numerous articles and book chapters on Sri Lanka. His latest publication, ‘Everyday Ethnicity in Sri Lanka: Up-country Tamil Identity Politics’, was published as part of the Routledge Contemporary South Asia Series in 2012. Focusing on notions of diaspora, identity and agency, this book examines ethnicity in war-torn Sri Lanka. It highlights the historical development and negotiation of a new identification of Up-country Tamil amidst Sri Lanka’s violent ethnic politics.
