Legal discharge procedure still exists for absent soldiers

According to the normal discharge procedure of deserters of Sri Lanka Army, soldiers who are absent without leave and are willing to quit the military service legally will be allowed to obtain their discharge legally, said MoD Media Centre Director/Spokesperson Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya. Especially for those who have not committed any illegal offences, pending/due payments and pending inquiries possibly could go through the discharge procedure and obtain their legal discharge, he added. Further the Brigadier said: “It is compulsory for them to report back to the relevant regiment to go through the procedure. Legal actions will be initiated for those who have committed offences accordingly and they will also be given the same opportunity on completion.” Meanwhile, responding to a question Army Media Spokesperson Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera said: “A message will be passed to all the regimental headquarters in this regard.”
