Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Faiszer Musthapha yesterday denied allegations raised by some political parties that Local Government elections have been postponed in order to prevent a split in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).

Issuing a press release Musthapha said the LG polls postponement took place due to the pending process of delimitation determining. 02-6

“Earlier most of political parties complained that the process of delimitation has not been done properly. Because of that we appointed a Cabinet subcommittee to receive appeals of people in all electorates. The committee is comprised of the members of all majority parties,” he stated.

Musthapha also stressed the LG election will be held after the delimitation process is concluded.

“The Government expects to hold the LG elections after solving issues by considering the received appeals. If not it will be a betrayal of the public who voted for President Maithripala Sirisena. I request all the political parties to give a reasonable time period to solve the appeals received by the subcommittee,” he said.
