Lithuania closes down its Honorary Consulate in Sri Lanka

Vilnius: Lithuania has closed down its Honorary Consulate in Sri Lanka after the death of its long-time Honorary Consul in Sri Lanka Mohamed Ansar Jabir, the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced. The Republic of Lithuania and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka established diplomatic relations in 1996. Just a couple of months after the establishment of diplomatic relations, M.A. Jabir was appointed as Lithuania’s first and so far only Honorary Consul in Sri Lanka. The 69-year old Jabir passed away at the end of 2014. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania offered its heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
