Responding to questions raised about the LLRC Report and comments made by the US State Department on the report, Minister of Mass Media and Information Keheliya Rambukwella at the post-Cabinet meeting briefing said that it was a continuation of the chain of negative approach being made by the international community.
He reminded the gathering about the comments made by the US earlier with regard to the impossibility of winning the war, allegations about IDP camps, alleged delays in resettlement of IDPs, doubts of the impartiality of the LLRC and reservations about government releasing the report etc.
The Minister pointed out that the report has been released disproving all allegations made against the LLRC and also within a short period. He said that US took several years to release the 9/11 report and it took almost five years to release the report on the Iraq invasion carried out on the pretext of Iraq possessing Weapons of Mass Destruction. The Minister further said that the government’s bona fide in appointing the LLRC was genuine and LLRC concept was mooted by the President for the benefit of the 19.5 million people in this country. He said that already steps have been taken to implement the recommendations made in the report.
