The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) says that the government’s winning results at the recently concluded local Government elections did not reflect the real mandate of the people.
JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva has said that the Government had used its state powers, bribed the voters and intimidated them at the elections while also reaping the benefit of holding elections on a staggered basis. He has said that the JVP’s performance at last Saturday’s local Government elections was similar to results received during the previous two phases of local Government elections held this year.
According to Silva, there is a group of people in the country who has voted for the JVP for its policies, and not due to any personal agenda. Last Saturday’s local Government election was also the first election to be held after the split in the JVP party.
