  • September Sangha conference to educate people about ‘threats’ to Sinhala Buddhism
  • Controversial Gnanasara Thero says Chief Prelates advised them to stop sparring with ministers
The hardline Bodu Bala Sena organisation is planning a massive Sangha conference in September to educate the people about the threats to Buddhism and the Sinhala race in Sri Lanka, its controversial General Secretary Galagodaththe Gnanasara Thero said yesterday. “The Bhikku will lead the way to save the race and religion,” Gnanasara Thero told the media following a meeting with the Mahanayakes in Kandy yesterday. The controversial Buddhist monk said that the Chief Prelates had strongly “blessed” their proposed program of work. “They very kindly and lovingly advised us to refrain from sparring with Ministers and to resolve these issues through discussion,” the monk added. Gnanasara Thero said the BBS had handed over a report to the Mahanayakes regarding these issues. They had no hatred towards any individuals, he said. “If there are accusations hurled at a monk, we are all human. There is no hatred or anger and there is definitely no politics. We are conducting a national program. If they continue to say and do things to hurt the Mahanayakes, there will be dangerous consequences for them to face in the future,” Gnanasara Thero warned.  (DB)
