Maldives further remands alleged Lankan sniper

Criminal Court of Maldives has again extended the remand of the Sri Lankan sniper arrested in Maldives allegedly hired and brought into the country as part of a plot to assassinate President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, Haveeru online reported.

The Sri Lankan was arrested on October 24 but only Saturday Maldives police confirmed the arrest.

Maldives Police said in a statement that the 27-year-old Sri Lankan man was hired to kill the President using a firearm. The police, however, did not reveal any further details.

The criminal court has remanded the man for a period of 15 days.
