Maldivian youth falls to death; four natives barred from leaving

T he Colombo Fort Magistrate yesterday directed five Maldivian nationals who were with the deceased the Maldivian national not to leave the country until the preliminary investigations into the death of a Maldivian national was completed. The Magistrate further directed them to surrender their passports to the Police.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne directed the Colombo Judicial Medical Officer to submit to court the post mortem examination report on the body of the 37-year-old Maldivian national who died after falling from the 18th floor of a hotel in Colombo.

When the inquest into the death of Maldivian national came up before Court, a Sri Lankan woman who was at the party at the hotel said that the deceased had been drunk before the incident took place.

The witness Ranjani Kumari of Kottawa told Court that she saw the deceased running around under the influence of alcohol. The witness said there were five people at the hotel room and she further informed Court that she went there since her friend had invited her to attend a party. She further told Court that she did not see anything regarding the incident as she was inside the bath room when it happened.  

The Slave Island Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
