The Pugoda Magistrate yesterday ordered the land and house allegedly owned by former Minister Basil Rajapaksa to be publicly auctioned.

Magistrate D. A. Ruwan Pathirana also ordered the proceeds of the sales be handed over to the custody of the Pugoda Magistrate Court.

Basil Rajapaksa on an earlier occasion informed the court that he does not own the 16 acre land and house in Gagngabada Road, Malwana. The current registered owner also declared to the court that he has no connection to the said property.

However the legal action was filed against the former parliamentarian on the accusation he took possession of the Malwana property via illegal means.

The Magistrate set the next court hearing to 10 January.
