Mandela, an example for leaders of countries divided by conflict: TNA

Mourning the passing of former South African President and freedom fighter Nelson Mandela, the Tamil National Alliance Leader R. Sampanthan said the iconic leader was a source of strength and inspiration to all oppressed people all over the world. “He sacrificed his entire life to achieve equality and justice for everyone in South Africa, irrespective of colour, race or creed. He liberated his people and achieved for them the true benefits of genuine democracy,” Sampanthan told Parliament during the Condolence Vote in the House last week. Sampanthan credited Nelson Mandela with creating an inclusive society in South Africa, where everyone felt a sense of belonging to the motherland. “He thereby unified the South African nation,” he explained. “The life and work of Nelson Mandela is an example to leaders of countries divided by conflict on account of inequality and injustice and needs to be emulated,” the TNA Leader said. “The death of the great South African leader Nelson Mandela, the first post-apartheid President of South Africa has caused us much sorrow. We salute a great leader and offer our deepest condolences to the family of Nelson Mandela, the people of South Africa, the ANC and the President and Government of South Africa,” Sampanthan said.
