Sri Lanka’s collective of media organisations said today that the Police had failed to probe the assault on media persons at a Bodu Bala Sena rally in Maharagama.

Addressing the media, the Secretary of the Working Journalists’ Association Lasantha Ruhunage said that neither had a statement been recorded nor had arrests been made so far from any person who was involved in the attack against the journalists of BBC and Nawamani Muslim newspaper.

Free Media Movement Convener Sunil Jayasekara said that no journalist was barred from reporting during the war based on their ethnicity, but now journalists were barred from reporting based on the ethnicity.

BBC journalists were threatened and a Muslim journalist was manhandled last week as they were reporting from a rally of Buddhist extremist organisation Bodu Bala Sena held to protest the Halal certification of foods.
