Massive crowds of protestors assembled in front of the Superior Court Complex and lined the Parliament Road, holding up banners and placards urging the Chief Justice to step down.
The protestors were being mobilised by a UPFA Colombo Municipal Councillor and directed at Parliament Road by Minister Mervyn Silva. The Minister was heard telling the crowds to chant that Parliament was supreme. Some lawyers also circulated images of some anti-CJ protestors allegedly being handed out cash before being loaded back into vans.
Addressing media near the protestors, Silva said that some judges were using diaspora funds to ruin the country and continue what Prabhakaran started from Hulftsdorp. “She said that if the charges against her are proved she would step down. They have been proved, now please go,” Silva said.
