Migrant worker’s case reopened in Saudi

In positive news, the Government yesterday notified parliament the case against a Sri Lankan woman now waiting to be stoned to death for adultery in Saudi Arabia has been reopened for appeal.

Breaking the decision of the Saudi Court of Appeal in Riyadh, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Harsha de Silva said: “Top officials of our mission in Saudi Arabia met her in prison. They had a lengthy conversation with her. The local court was well informed about the reopening of the case in Court of Appeal in Riyadh.”

According to the Deputy Minister, all expenses to appeal on behalf of her will be borne by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to win her freedom.
