Housing and Construction Minister Wimal Weerawansa says that houses of low income families in the Colombo city would not be demolished without providing them with alternative dwellings.

Weerawansa has given this assurance to parliament following a question posed by UNP parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake.

He has observed that low income families in Colombo would not be evicted unless alternate lands were found for them.

According to Weerawansa, improving the living conditions of the low income families in Colombo should not depend on party politics and be carried out regardless of who wins the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) elections in October.

He has emphasised the need to provide better housing facilities for the low income families in Colombo.
