Ministry of Defence begins work after New Year

A function was held at the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development in view of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year on 16 April. Secretary Defence and Urban Development Gotabaya Rajapaksa together with his spouse - Chairperson of the MoD Seva Vanitha Unit Ioma Rajapaksa, graced the event.

The traditional oil lamp was lit by the Secretary Defence Rajapaksa, Ioma Rajapaksa and heads of various departments that come under the purview of the MoD.

The Defence Secretary, in keeping with traditional customs invited all to enjoy the ‘Avurudu’ sweetmeats that included the traditional milk-rice and kevum. He mingled with those present and wished them well in the year to come. Senior ministry officials, security forces officers and MoD staff were present at the occasion.
