Modi expresses grief over Koslanda tragedy; India extends Rs. 5 m as disaster relief

To meet the urgent needs of victims of the recent landslides in the Koslanda region of the Badulla District in Uva Province, the Government of India has announced Rs. 5 million worth of immediate relief as emergency humanitarian assistance. The High Commission of India in Colombo and the Assistant High Commissioner in Kandy will work closely with the Government to coordinate the provision of this relief assistance. The Government of India is considering, in consultation with the Sri Lankan Government, medium- and long-term assistance options. India’s Prime Minister and External Affairs minister have conveyed their deepest condolences to the Government and the people of Sri Lanka and the families affected by the recent landslides. “The Government of India stands ready to assist the Government of Sri Lanka to deal with this natural disaster,” a statement issued by the High Commission said.
