Reuters: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (May 14) said holier-than-thou attitude and expansionist attitude were fuelling conflicts across the world.

Speaking at the valedictory session of the ongoing pitcher festival, Modi said misinterpretation and distortion of religion had led to rise in militancy and bloodshed - indirectly referring to Islamic State (IS) and its associates.

“The world is grappling with the twin crisis -- on one hand is global warming and on the other side is militancy. What is the solution? What is basis of it? Holier-than-thou attitude and my path is better than yours is dragging us toward conflicts,” Modi said in Ujjain town.

Modi called for development of inner self to overcome the problems of expansionism, global warming and militancy.

“Expansionism is taking us towards conflict. Times have changed. Expansionism is not solution of the problems. We need to think vertically and we need to raise our inner consciousness,” added Modi.

Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena was also present on the occasion.
