Moneragala dominates poll violence figures

The Moneragala District continues to dominate the election violence trends in the hotly-contested Uva Province, as the countdown begins for the 20 September election. Election monitoring group the Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) reported that 330 election violations have taken place during campaigning so far. CaFFE said that 236 incidents were reported from the Moneragala District while the Badulla District has reported 77 violations so far. The group noted that 78% of the violations reported so far pertained to violations of election laws, while 22% were linked to poll-related violence.
