Moratuwa Uni. holds General Convocation today

The 34th General Convocation of the University of Moratuwa will be held at the Bandaranaike International Conference Hall (BMICH) in two sessions. The morning session will commence at 9:30 a.m. and the afternoon session from 1:30 p.m. Over 1,400 graduans will be conferred degrees at the ceremony. This year’s convocation comprises two sessions; the morning for the Faculties of Engineering and Information Technology and the award of postgraduate degrees, and the afternoon for the Faculty of Architecture. This year’s convocation address will be delivered by Professor Gehan Amaratunga of the University of Cambridge. Professor Amaratunga currently heads the Electronics, Power and Energy Conversion Group, one of the four major research groups within the Electrical Engineering Division of the Cambridge Engineering Faculty and is also the Professorial Fellow of Churchill College, Cambridge. Professor Amaratunga is currently in Sri Lanka and functions as Chief Research and Innovation, Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology. The Faculty of Architecture has 244 graduates, 54 postgraduates and one doctoral student. The Faculty of Engineering has 730 graduates receiving their first degree at this convocation and 293 graduates receiving their postgraduate degree and diplomas. The Faculty of Information Technology being the youngest faculty of the university has 70 graduates with the Honours Degree of Bachelors of Science in Information Technology and 19 postgraduates.
