More time to report disappearances

The Commission appointed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to investigate complaints regarding the disappearance of any person in the Northern and Eastern Provinces has extended the closing date for receiving complaints till 31 December this year. The earlier deadline for the Commission to receive complaints on 31 November 2013 was extended in response to requests by the public and various institutions. President Rajapaksa has empowered this Commission to investigate complaints regarding the disappearance of any person in the Northern and Eastern Provinces during the period from 10 June 1990 to 19 May 2009. The Commission is in the process of studying complaints already being received for future investigations. After the conclusion of its work, the Commission is due to conduct meetings with the public in the two provinces to conduct oral investigations. The dates and times of public meetings will be notified through the media and the respective GAs, District Secretaries, Divisional Secretaries, and Grama Niladharis.
