MP Range Bandara served indictment

Minister Palitha Range Bandara and another accused were served an indictment in the Colombo High Court yesterday for forging documents for a Mitsubishi Pajero Jeep worth Rs. 5.4 million.

The indictment was filed in the Colombo High Court by the Attorney General against Bandara and another suspect named Lalinda Jagath Kumara alias Liyange who have been accused of forging documents for the Mitsubishi Pajero jeep bearing chassis No. V 7BW 007729 and attempting to sell an illegally assembled jeep by misleading the prospective buyer to believe the assembled vehicle was an original.

Senior State Counsel Dilan Ratnayake, appearing for the prosecution, served the indictments to the two accused when the case was called before High Court Judge Sarojini Kusala Weerawardena. Thereafter Counsel Esara Wellala and Kalum Kumarasinghe appearing for the two accused moved to grant bail to the accused.

Consequently, the judge released the two accused on cash bail of Rs. 25,000 with two sureties of Rs. 500,000 each. They were also warned not to interfere with the witnesses in the case. The case was postponed to 18 March 2017.

The Attorney General has listed 49 witnesses and 36 productions to support the prosecution’s case. 

The two accused were alleged to have attempted to sell the assembled vehicle to a buyer with malicious intentions during a period between 21 July and 23 December 2008.
