Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday said that the police were mixing up civil and criminal cases for political purposes Rajapaksa said this after he visited former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardane at the Mahara Prison last morning. “Arresting people in this manner in connection with civil cases could not be considered good governance. Today development in the country has come to a standstill while the Government is preoccupied with taking revenge on its opponents,” he said. When asked whether he was planning to come back to politics, Rajapaksa said that currently he was enjoying his leisure time and visiting his colleagues in prison. “I expected the SLFP President to look into these arrests and do justice. Mr. Gamini Senarath was questioned over a vehicle leasing incident and Lohan Ratwatte was also summoned for interrogation. We can see this trend. This should be stopped and good governance ensured,” Rajapaksa added.
