MS the next presidential candidate: S.B

Despite President Maithripala Sirisena’s promise to never run for office again Minister S.B. Dissanayake yesterday said that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) would field Sirisena as the candidate for the Presidential Election in 2020.

Speaking to the media, Dissanayake claimed that President Sirisena is yet to give his opinion about being the SLFP candidate for the next election. 

Dissanayake said majority of the SLFPers were requesting President Sirisena to contest again since he was the ideal candidate to run the country.

“As the Chairman of the SLFP, President Sirisena cannot disregard a demand made by the party to be the next candidate again. I hope he will accept our request,” he said.

Commenting on the provincial council election, Minister Dissanayake said that the delimitation report would be gazetted soon and the election would be held in April. 

The UNP and the SLFP have agreed on holding elections after the system was changed, he said.
