“My Govt. committed to maintain free education, health service in country”: President

President Mahinda Rajapaksa underscored that he strongly believed that every Government should mandatorily maintain free education as well as free health service in the country. As such he pointed out that he would be totally dedicated to safeguarding free education and free health, addressing specialist doctors at a meeting in Colombo on Tuesday. The Government has taken initiatives to grant all facilities required by the health sector. The number of specialist doctors has by now increased from 512 in 2005 to nearly 2,000. The President said that specialist doctors were now serving in every sphere and pointed out that the Jaffna Hospital had been now been developed with one floor equipped with 10 surgical theatres. Pointing out that the result was the most important in good governance, the President said that no one should forget the manner in which the dark era that prevailed in the past had now been clearly changed. First Lady Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa, Minister Tissa Attanayake, Deputy Minister Lalith Dissanayake and Health Services Director General Dr. Palitha Mahipala were present on the occasion.
