President Mahinda Rajapaka’s son, Hambantota District Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, took oaths as a lawyer yesterday before a panel of Supreme Court Judges led by the Chief Justice, Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake.
Namal Rajapaksa is an old boy of St. Thomas’s College, Mount Lavinia. He has received a LLB degree from the City University in London.
Following his father’s footsteps, the 25-year-old parliamentarian entered into politics last year.
He was elected to the parliament with highest number of preferential votes in 2010 from Hambantota district.
Another nine law students also took oaths at the ceremony today.
First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris and Justice Minister Rauf Hakeem were among those present to congratulate him after the ceremony.
