NBT will not be added to electricity bill, Minister assures

Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has said that the four per cent Nation Building Tax will not be added to electricity bills.

Speaking at a ceremony held to mark the commencement of official duties of Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera at his new office complex, Minister Siyambalapitiya said the Government’s aim is to efficiently supply electricity continuously without burdening the consumers.

The Minister said that the question raised at present by many quarters is as to what will happen to the Nation Building Tax announced in the budget. He explicitly clarified that this four per cent Nation Building Tax will not be added to the bill of electricity consumers.

Giving his views on the occasion Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera refuted allegations made by certain elements that the electricity bill would rise as a result of the imposition of the Nation Building Tax in the budget.
