Opposition Leader of the North Central Province, K.K. Nelson has decided to support President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the 8 January presidential contest.
More popularly known as ‘King’ Nelson, the opposition strongman had strong grassroots links in Common Opposition Candidate Maithripala Sirisena’s home province.
The defection could prove a blow to the opposition campaign in the North Central Province, home to the districts of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa.
The defection comes shortly before postal voting commenced for the presidential election. (DB)
