Nearly 2,000 troops for CHOGM

Nearly 2,000 soldiers will be involved in serving as liaison officers to heads of states and delegates at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) next week. The Army Media Unit said that more than 327 Army officers and 1,336 Other ranks, selected to serve as liaison officers and other various related duties, received a comprehensive briefing from Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake. Lieutenant General Ratnayake’s address to the soldiers elaborated on the importance of the Army service to the mammoth international event and steps that should be adopted for smooth conduct of all liaison duties to the best satisfaction of the visitors arriving in Sri Lanka. “The Government has the complete confidence in us and expects us to do our best to make the CHOGM a big success. Therefore, all of you should perform your assigned duties with the highest degree of politeness, respect and diligence as well-mannered members of a proud organisation, in an exemplary manner,” the Commander remarked.
