Nearly Rs. 5 m cash bonds confiscated following the election

The cash bonds deposited by Independent groups for the general election 2015 have been confiscated.

The election secretariat stated that the total cash bonds confiscated have amounted to Rs. 4,996,000.

2,498 candidates from 201 independent groups had deposited cash bonds for the 2015 general election. A candidate from independent groups was required to deposit Rs. 2000 each before nominations. 

Each independent group should obtain at least 5% of the total number of votes to reclaim their cash bond after the election.
