James Dauris, the newly appointed British High Commissioner for Maldives and Sri Lanka arrived for his first official visit to the Maldives this week. He presented his letter of appointment to President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom today at a ceremony held in the President’s Office.

After the ceremony, he met with the President and discussed about the relations between both countries. In one of his tweets he said that he was ‘delighted’ to be the British High Commissioner to the Maldives. James Dauris also met with Foreign Secretary Dr. Ali Naseer and according to a tweet on his twitter feed the meeting was a very useful one.

James Dauris was formerly the British High Commissioner to Peru and was appointed to Maldives and Sri Lanka in December. He took on his duties as the British High Commissioner after his predecessor John Renkin’s term ended last month. He joined the UK Foreign office in 1995 and he has worked in the UK foreign office in London and various other places in the world and worked on a number of diplomatic missions.

Due to the political instability, UK is one of countries which highly criticised the current situation in Maldives; especially when former President Nasheed was jailed UK had severely condemned the acts. (Source: http://www.haveeru.com.mv/)
