New Catholic channel: Verbum soon on PEO TV

Verbum Television tied up with SLT PEO TV to commence its channel telecast from 30 January 2015. Verbum Television is a Catholic Television channel, which caters to the spiritual needs of the Catholic communities in Sri Lanka and around the world. This endeavour has been established with the alliance and guidance of Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith and the Catholic Bishop’s Conference. Agreements were signed between the two parties at the Archbishop’s House Colombo, in the presence of Most Rev. Dr. Raymond Wickramasinghe, Most Rev. Dr. Maxwell Silva and Most Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Fernando along with Millan De Silva, Chairman and Upul Jayasuriya, Head of Corporate Affairs. Sri Lanka Telecom Group Chief Executive Officer Lalith De Silva and PEO TV and SLT Rainbow Pages CEO Malraj Balapitiya also participated at the agreement signing ceremony. Lalith De Silva expressed his views, “Sri Lanka Telecom has always been a responsible corporate who values the wellbeing of our people. By adding Verbum on PEO TV, we intend to enhance the spiritual values within individuals and to strengthen peace and harmony among all communities of Sri Lanka.” Speaking on behalf of Verbum, Verbum Television Chairman Millan De Silva said, “We trust that Sri Lankan Catholics will benefit immensely from Verbum Television and this will be a great blessing to our motherland and we appreciate the efforts of SLT PEO TV for making Verbum a reality.” Verbum will produce various TV programs in high definition quality for viewers of all age groups to uplift Catholic faith, moral and values. Some of the main programs will be designed to encourage and motivate viewers to contribute to the Nation’s development through personal development and aspiring entrepreneurship.  Speaking at the signing of the agreements between SLT PEO TV and Verbum, Malraj Balapitiya, CEO of PEO TV mentioned, “We are happy to tie up Verbum with the will to excel and nurture the society to inculcate good thinking that will help enrich the lives of people and we are proud to be the first to air Verbum in Sri Lanka.”  Sri Lanka Telecom PLC introduced the IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) technology to Sri Lanka under the brand name PEO TV (Personalized Entertainment Option). SLT PEO TV offers a host of services to its customers including Live TV Services, Time Shift TV, Rewind TV, Video on Demand, Subscription Video on Demand and many Interactive Applications and Services. SLT PEO TV currently owns an active subscriber base of 120,000 around the island and presently customers can enjoy nearly 60 local and international TV channels.
