New Commander of Sri Lanka Navy assumes duties

Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera assumed duties as the 19th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy yesterday at a ceremonial function held at the Naval headquarters, Colombo. President Mahinda Rajapaksa appointed Rear Admiral Perera as the new Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy and promoted him to the rank of Vice Admiral with effect from 1st July 2014. Prior to being appointed as the Navy Commander, he held the post of Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy. He is replacing the outgoing Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Admiral Jayanath Colombage.
