New European Union Ambassador to Sri Lanka

Ambassador and Head of Delegation David Daly assumed his post at the Delegation of the European Union to Sri Lanka and the Maldives on 1 September 2013 and presented his credentials to President Mahinda Rajapaksa on 4 October 2013. Further to presenting credentials Daly said: “It is my privilege to take up duties as Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Sri Lanka and I look forward to further strengthening the relations between the European Union and Sri Lanka.”  Ambassador Daly comes from Sligo, Ireland and has worked in the external relations side of the EU service for over 22 years and previously served in the Irish Diplomatic service. Ambassador Daly previously served as Ambassador/Head of Delegation to the EU Delegation to Australia and New Zealand from 2009 to 2013. He is also the Head of Delegation and Ambassador-designate to the Maldives. Ambassador David Daly has a Masters Degree in Economic Science (European Studies) from Dublin University, Trinity College, Dublin (1987); an Honours Degree as Bachelor of Public Administration from University College Dublin (1984), and Graduate Membership of the Institute of Personnel Management, London (1984). He has also followed an Executive Management course in Leadership at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, Cambridge.
