New Government in next week claims Maithri

Common opposition presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena on Thursday said the end of the current despotic regime is nearing and a new Government will be in power next week. Addressing a public rally in Borella on Thursday presidential candidate of the New Democratic Front said that the reign of President Mahinda Rajapaksa will come to an end in another seven days. Sirisena noted that the current administration is attempting to seek

another eight years in office by calling for early elections. He went on to describe the New Democratic Front as a political alliance that has never been created before. Addressing a rally in Weliweriya in the Gampaha District, the presidential candidate said he will limit the term of the presidency to four years after he is elected. “No other country in the world has a presidency of six years, I will immediately reduce the president’s term to four years when I am elected,” Sirisena said. Sirisena said the first task of his Government is to address the issue of hunger among the poor and alleviate the burden created by the rising cost of living. Dismissing the ruling party’s claims that there will be another war and political instability if Sirisena comes to power, the common candidate vowed that he will never allow terrorism to rise again in the country. He said there is a political instability now in the country as one family is controlling all the assets of the country. He requested the public not to be deceived by false rumours spread by the Government.
