New house for war hero

The Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU) of the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development handed over the keys of a newly constructed house to a war hero at a function held at Wilawa, Balalla in Mahawa early this week. The event was held under the patronage of Chairperson of the MoD Seva Vanitha Unit Ioma Rajapaksa. Rajapaksa ceremonially handed over the keys of the house to Private Dasanayake HMMBP of the 11th Artillery Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army during the function. Private Dasanayake had joined Sri Lanka Army in 2006 and had taken part in a number of operations against the terrorists. He lost his right leg due to an antipersonnel mine blast in 2008 during the humanitarian operations. He is a father of two children. The house was constructed under the supervision of the MoD Seva Vanitha Unit with the financial assistance of Sudath Dewpura whilst the construction work was carried out by the 4th Engineers Corps of the Sri Lanka Army. Vice Chairperson of the MoD SVU Indu Rathnayaka, senior military officers and people of the area were present at the occasion.
