New JSC secretary assumes duties

Justice R.M. Sisira Ratnayake assumed duties as the new secretary to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) yesterday morning at his office in Hulftsdorp.

New JSC secretary Justice Sisira Ratnayake who arrived in the office to assume duties was warmly welcomed by staff members in the JSC office, several Magistrates in Colombo Courts and lawyers. A religious observation was held to invoke blessing to the newly appointed JSC secretary before he assumed duties. Addressing the media soon after assuming duties, Ratnayake said he is dedicated to fulfilling his duties as the JSC secretary according to the provisions of the Constitution and powers vested him from the JSC.   

The new secretary holds a post graduate degree in commercial laws from Aberdeen University in the United Kingdom. After joining the Justice Ministry as the Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Justice, he rendered his service in establishing Civil Appellate High Courts island-wide.

Ratnayake is a distinguished old boy of St. Thomas College in Guruthalawa and Ananda College in Colombo.  Prior to assuming duties as the JSC secretary, Ratnayake served at the Civil Appellate High Court in Avissawella.
