New Sabaragamuwa University buildings costing Rs. 557 m open

Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa said recently that the Government had taken steps to provide every graduate with an opportunity to find a job according to his/her qualifications without having to go behind various people to find employment. The Government is spending massive amounts annually for free education under President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s leadership, according to the Minister.
Minister Rajapaksa was addressing those who attended the ceremony held in connection with the opening of the new building complex and the play ground of the Sabaragamuwa University. The Higher Education Ministry has spent Rs. 557 million on these constructions which include a new hostel which can accommodate 240 students, a fully-equipped sports complex and a Geometics Faculty. In addition foundation stones were laid for the construction of a women’s hostel complex with all facilities at a cost of Rs.440 million and for the second stage of the Geometics Faculty costing Rs. 173 million.
Speaking further Minister Rajapaksa said that the Government’s aim is to create a well- educated generation of young Sri Lankans who will be able to meet job requirements not only of Sri Lanka but also rest of the world. With this objective in mind steps are being taken to introduce new technology and other subjects essential to present day needs worldwide.
He added that the President’s aim is to see that young people find jobs for which they are suited most and thereby give them the opportunity to develop the country’s economy and live with dignity. So far unemployed graduates have been given jobs up November 2011. Graduates no longer need to go behind various people to find employment.
Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake said the Government’s objective is to ensure that university students complete their education without hindrance. Disciplinary action is being taken against errant students not with anger but in order to make them go on the right path, he pointed out. Sabaragamuwa University Chancellor Venerable Kamburugamuwe Vajira Nayaka Thera (on the invitation of Vice Chancellor Mahinda Rupasinghe), Power and Energy Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Sabaragamuwa Chief Minister Maheepala Herath, Sabaragamuwa Provincial Minister Bhaanu Munipriya and Higher Education Ministry Secretary Dr. Sunil Jayantha Navaratne were among the other invitees.
