The Government said that it would intensify investigations over alleged corruption and fraud by appointing another unit to assist in the probe. A special police unit is already involved in investigating serious financial crimes but Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that a serious frauds bureau would also be setup soon. He told Parliament that the police did not have the knowledge to investigate incidents of corruption including allegations that some members of the former Government accepted bribes to offer tenders for projects.
