NFF MP arrested and remanded until 5th October

The Financial Crime Investigations Division (FCID) of the Sri Lanka Police yesterday arrested a parliamentarian over misusing state properties during the previous government.

The FCID arrested MP Jayantha Samaraweera, the National Freedom Front (NFF) parliamentarian from Kalutara district when he appeared before the FCID to give a statement regarding alleged misuse of government vehicles belonging to the Presidential Secretariat for the Presidential Election campaign in 2015.

The FCID is investigating a complaint that 13 private vehicles of the Presidential Secretariat that were handed over to the Ministry of Housing Construction and Engineering Services have been given to the NFF for use during the Presidential Election campaign.

MP Samaraweera was remanded until 05th October when he was produced before the Fort Magistrate.
