While the people are crying out for economic relief and reform in the education sector, the Government is busy planning night raises, the main Opposition UNP charged yesterday.
Speaking at a media conference yesterday, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said that the Government has prioritised Lamborghini racing in Colombo over resolving the socio-economic problems of the people.
“The burdens of the people are immaterial to this Government. They are busy preparing Galle Face to race the Lamborghinis they reduced import taxes on,” Attanayake said. He added that it was sad to see army soldiers being used to lift sandbags to line the two sides of Galle Road in preparation for the races. “This is the fate of the war heroes,” he added.
Attanayake said that the UNP’s 54th National Convention had been a resounding success. He said that the party had unified at the convention and would take strict action against anyone who attempts to stand in the way of the UNP taking the fight to the Government. (DB)
