No opportunity to carry out any business if no stability in country: President

President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that there would not be an opportunity to carry out any business if there was no stability in the country and nobody was therefore prepared to lose the stability that was built up by his Government. President Mahinda Rajapaksa addresses insurance sales advisors and Manning Market and World Market representatives - Pix by Sudath Silva Addressing All Ceylon Insurance sales advisors and representatives of Manning and World Markets on Wednesday at the BMICH, the President said a massive revolution had taken place in the highway sector and infrastructure facilities had been expanded considerably to facilitate the businesses in the country. Speaking further, the President said he could not understand why some groups were calling for a change for the sake of a change with no vision for the future. He charged that some groups with foreign influence were trying to create a change similar to the changes that took place in Arab countries for worse. He requested the general public to vote at the forthcoming presidential election realising this situation.

Govt. will leave no room for territorial division: President

    President Mahinda Rajapaksa stated that local elements who tried to divide the country with the support of foreign help were once again at it and assured that the Government would not leave any room for such a move. He made these observations while addressing rallies in Kiribathgoda, Ma-kola, Kirindiwela and Gampaha areas on Tuesday (30 December). The President said he would face any challenge against the country. He said some political parties had made unreasonable demands from him in exchange for support at the presidential polls. He stressed that he would never get into any agreement which may threaten the division of any kind in the country in exchange for support. President Rajapaksa said he had no doubt that on 8 January the people would teach a bitter lesson to those who had betrayed public expectations and threatened the country’s well-being for petty political gain. “Sri Lanka is a nation that suffered immensely for its freedom. Political parties and people should understand this and commit themselves to safeguarding freedom,” he added. While urging the people to unite in the face of adversity, the President said: “Let the world know that people are united against both local and international conspirators who are trying to destabilise and create divisions in the country again.”
