United National Party (UNP) legislators staged a walk out of the parliament Chamber following a physical assault on UNP parliamentarian Palitha Range Bandara.

Several legislators representing the governing United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) had assaulted Bandara.

UPFA MP Arundhika Fernando has reportedly assaulted the UNP legislator following some name calling.

Governing party members had continuously disrupted Bandara’s speech during the committee stage debate on the Defence Ministry.

An exchange of words that had taken place during the debate had continued afterwards in the parliament lobby where the physical confrontation had taken place.  UNP legislators have staged a walk out in protest after Bandara was assaulted.  (Colombo Page)
